Trends over time: trade in goods within the Med region and with the rest of the world

Over the last decade, the majority of Mediterranean trade has been conducted with countries outside the region, accounting for around 80% of total trade. Trade within the region has made up the remaining 20%, suggesting that trade integration within the Mediterranean is relatively low.

Note: Analysis produced by Alma Economics based on data from the UN Comtrade database. Due to incomplete data for 2023, we conduct our analysis up until 2022. Algeria, Libya and Syria are excluded from this analysis as there is a lack of available data.
