Trade openness in the Med region for goods and services (% of GDP)

In 2022, Malta led the Mediterranean countries in trade as a percentage of GDP. Malta's trade reached 325% of GDP, surpassing Cyprus, the second most open economy in the region, by 142 percentage points. Despite remaining at the bottom for trade as a percentage of GDP, Egypt experienced a 7.1 percentage point increase over the last year, reflecting a noticeable rise in trade openness.
